The macula is part of the retina — an area at the back of your eye responsible for detailed vision at the centre of your eye-line. The macula is the most sensitive part of the retina, and gives us the sharp central vision which is essential for activities like reading and driving. The body naturally deposits the three macular carotenoids at the macula. This is called the macular pigment, and looks like a yellow spot at the back of the eye. The three macular carotenoids are lutein, meso-zeaxanthin and zeaxanthin.
As the body can’t make macular carotenoids, they need to be obtained from your diet. Dark green vegetables, fruit, and some types of fish and seafood are sources of these nutrients.
Every MacuShield product contains LMZ3, our nutrient blend of all three macular carotenoids, providing: • 10mg of lutein • 10mg of meso-zeaxanthin • 2mg of zeaxanthin.
